Description
This is a circa 1790-1800 terraced house with a shop, situated within the Portman Estate development and resembling numbers 43 to 47 in Upper Montagu Street. The house is two windows wide and has a basement and four storeys. It is constructed of stock brick with a concealed slate roof. The ground floor features an early 19th-century shop front framed with timber pilasters and a narrow entablature-fascia. Recessed sash windows and some casements are found on the upper floors, each set within a flat, gauged red brick arch. A stucco sill band runs along the first floor. The house is topped with a parapet featuring stone coping. Cast iron balconettes are present on the first floor, and the front is secured by cast iron area railings with urn finials. The building is listed for its group value within the surrounding conservation area.
