Description
No. 54 Upper Montagu Street is a terraced house built around 1810-1820 as part of J.T. Parkinson's Montagu Square Portman Estate development. The building is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and has a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is two windows wide. To the left, there is a semicircular arched doorway framed by stucco pilasters that support an entablature. The entrance features a panelled door with a reeded head and jambs adorned with lions' heads, along with a fanlight above. The upper floors have recessed sash windows set under gauged flat arches, with stucco reveals. The stuccowork is finished with a plat band at the first floor level, and there is a crowning stucco cornice and blocking course. Delicate wrought iron balconettes are present on the first floor, and the area railings are made of cast iron with urn finials.
