Description
No. 43 York Street is a terraced house built around 1810-1820 as part of the Portman Estate development, similar in style to Nos. 39, 41, and 45. The building is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and features a concealed slate roof. It has four storeys and a basement, with two windows across the front. To the right, there is a semicircular arched doorway that includes a panelled door with reeded jambs and head, and a plain fanlight above. The upper floors have recessed sash windows under flat gauged arches, although the first floor windows have been altered. The stucco work is finished with a plat band at the first floor level, and there is a parapet with coping at the top. A cast iron Gothick patterned balcony spans the first floor, and cast iron area railings with urn finials surround the area.
