Description
The building comprises a row of terraced houses at numbers 25 to 37, Upper Montagu Street, London, built around 1810 to 1820 as part of a larger development on the Portman Estate by J.T. Parkinson. The houses are constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor, and have concealed slate roofs. They rise four storeys above a basement. Each house front has two windows. A semicircular arched doorway is positioned on the left-hand side, with a panelled door featuring reeded heads and jambs, and a radial fanlight above. The recessed sash windows retain their original glazing bars, with the exception of number 27. They are set within flat, gauged arches on the upper floors. Stuccowork finishes at a plat band level, just below the first floor. The tops of the houses are finished with parapets adorned with stone copings. Continuous cast iron balconies with a Gothick pattern run along the first floor of the buildings. Cast iron area railings are present, topped with urn finials.
