Description

A group of terraced houses, numbers 12 to 16, were built around 1810 to 1820 as part of the development of Montagu Square on the Portman Estate, designed by J.T. Parkinson. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with concealed slate roofs and extend over four storeys and a basement. Each front is two windows wide. Number 16 has a semicircular arched doorway with a radial pattern, and all retain panelled doors within reeded jambs and fanlights above. The windows are recessed sash windows with stucco surrounds and are set beneath flat, gauged arches. A stucco plat band runs along the first floor. A stucco crowning cornice, partially removed, sits above the windows, terminating in a blocking course. A continuous cast iron balcony with a geometric pattern is present on the first floor of number 16, while numbers 12 and 14 have decorative wrought iron balconettes. Cast iron area railings are fitted to the front boundary, topped with urn finials.
