12 And 14, Asylum Road

12 and 14 Asylum Road are a pair of houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with painted stucco on the ground floor of No. 12, designed to resemble banded rustication. The buildings rise three stories above a basement and each house has two windows, with recessed outer sections. The ground floor features segmental-arched windows, while the entrance to the left-hand unit is flat-arched and set within an aedicule in the first window range, and the entrance to the right-hand unit is located on the return. The other openings are flat-arched as well. There is a sill band beneath the first-floor windows, which are set in basket-arched recesses, and the second-floor windows have gauged brick lintels. A brick entablature band runs across the top. The upper-floor windows have original 6x6 sash designs. The interior has not been inspected. This pair of houses forms a group with No. 10 and the Victuallers' Almshouses on Asylum Road.
