Description

The North Lodge to the Licensed Victuallers' Benevolent Institution, located in Caroline Gardens, was built in 1839 by Henry Rose. This single-storey structure features stock brick with a stucco cornice, blocking course, and dressings. It has three bays with pilasters of varying widths that support a narrow architrave, and a stucco frieze above a pedimented center. The pediment displays an inscription that reads, "This lodge erected 1839. Henry England, chairman." The central door is framed by a stucco architrave with a cornice head and an oblong fanlight with margin lights. The sash windows also have shouldered architraves with margin lights. The building has a low plinth and a chimney designed as an acroterion. The returns on either side are similarly pedimented and consist of one bay each. The interior has not been inspected.
