Description

The Clapham Park War Memorial is situated outside the Church of the Holy Spirit on Narbonne Road. It features a Calvary cross atop a tapered octagonal shaft, which is mounted on an octagonal plinth. The plinth is adorned with two rows of Gothic-style inscriptions, separated by symbolic decorations. The upper inscription reads "IN EVER LIVING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR OF MCMXIV XVIII," while the lower inscription states "MAY GOD THE ALL MERCIFUL GRANT TO THEM AND TO ALL WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY HIS LIGHT AND EVERLASTING LIFE." The entire structure rests on a single-stepped octagonal base.
