Description

This is a substantial early 19th-century building comprising numbers 145, 147, and 149 Clapham Road. Originally a grand composition, it has since been altered. The building is three storeys high with a basement, and features twelve windows. The two central bays project slightly and are topped by a pediment. The facade is rendered in stucco with incised lines, a cornice, and a parapet. A decorative cill band runs across the second floor, featuring delicate fluting and paterae in the right five bays. Most windows are sash windows, with glazing bars in the three right bays. Numbers 145 and 147 have been combined and converted into flats, and a later wide, quasi-classical entrance has been inserted with a round-arched opening and broken pediment. The left bay of number 149 contains a two-storey round-arched recess, topped by an oval window and supported by a prostyle Ionic porch. A six-panel door is accessed via six steps with a wrought iron handrail; the door has a cornice head acting as an impost band and a plain fanlight above.
