Description
No. 78 is a detached house built in 1862, located in Holland Park. The building is made of stucco and consists of three storeys, an attic, and a basement. It is three bays wide and has a symmetrical design. The ground floor features channelling, and there are steps leading up to a central entrance flanked by Doric half columns. Above the steps, there is a wrought and cast iron glazed canopy. On either side of the entrance, there are two-storey canted bay windows, which are supported by Ionic pilasters on the upper storey. The outer windows on the second floor also have pilasters. A small balustraded balcony is present at the central window, and the house is topped with a rich cornice and a balustraded parapet that incorporates three dormers; the outer two are pedimented, while the inner one has chimney outlets. Additionally, there are cast iron balconies on the ground floor. This house is part of the planned layout of Holland Park.
