Description
No. 38 Canonbury Park South is a semi-detached house built between 1850 and 1852. It is constructed of brick with stucco dressings and has a slate roof, showcasing Italianate architectural style. The house has two storeys over a basement, with a three-storey tower on the east side. The street-facing facade is three bays wide; the two eastern bays have a ridge parallel to the street, while the western bay slightly projects as a gabled wing, which includes a porch in the angle. The original sash windows are present on the street front, and the basement is stuccoed.
There are steps leading up to a stuccoed porch featuring an architrave and cornice. The ground-floor windows have architraves with an 'interrupted' profile and cornices, along with a cornice band. The west window on the first floor is set under a semi-circular moulding, while the other two windows have architraves that merge with the stucco band between the exposed eaves. The roofs are gabled, and there is an external gabled stack with offsets on the east side.
The tower includes bands at each floor level and features paired round-arched windows on the second floor, topped with a hipped roof. On the west side, there are two stacks, with the front stack displaying console mouldings above the eaves and a deep cornice at the top. The rear facade has a single-storey bay on the ground floor with a tripartite window, also featuring 'interrupted' architraves, and paired round-headed windows at the top storey of the tower. Nos. 38, 40, 42, and 44 together create a distinct and varied group of Italianate designs.
