Description

These are a group of three pairs of semi-detached houses, located on Highshore Road. Built in 1838, they are an example of the Italianate style. The houses are stuccoed over brick and have hipped slate roofs with central brick chimney stacks. Each property has two storeys, a basement, and three windows. A decorative band runs horizontally between the floors, and there are recessed pilasters to the centre and ends, interrupted by this band. The first-floor windows are 12-pane sashes set within reveals. The larger ground-floor windows also have 12 panes and are framed by moulded architraves with stops beneath the window sills. The basement windows are smaller, with nine panes. Doorways are located in the outside bays and feature cornices and pilasters, with rectangular fanlights containing vertical glazing bars. Each doorway has a door consisting of two vertical panels. Numbers 37 and 39 have been connected by a one-bay link block, which matches the style and includes a 12-pane sash window on the first floor.
