Description

Two semi-detached houses located on Highshore Road, dating from the early 19th century. The houses are stucco faced, with scoring suggesting the appearance of ashlar. The roofs are hipped; the roof over number 21 is covered in concrete tiles and the roof over number 23 in slate. They are two storeys high with a basement. Each house has two windows. The windows are flat-arched except for the basement windows, which have segmental arches. Steps lead to entrances at the corners of the pair, each sheltered by a Tuscan prostyle porch with responds. The entrances are set back from the central window bays, which feature shallow rectangular full-height bays. The ground-floor windows have architraves and bracketed pediments, notably primitive in their detailing, and demonstrate a Greek Revival style. The first-floor windows also have architraves, again in a simplified Greek Revival manner. Windows above the entrances have flush eared architraves. There is a full-height recess on the party wall, and stacks are located on the party wall. The eaves are boxed with paired brackets and a simplified triglyph frieze. The original sash windows are 6x6 panes to the ground-floor and 3x3 panes to the first-floor of the central bays. The interior was not inspected.
