Description
A pair of semi-detached houses dating from the mid-19th century, located on Lyndhurst Way in Southwark. The houses are constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco dressings. They are designed in an Italianate style.
The houses have three storeys over a basement, with a recessed entrance range of two storeys and a four-window range in the centre of the pair. Steps lead up to the entrances, which are topped by an overlight at each corner. A porch spans the entrances, supported by round arches with rusticated voussoirs. To the side of each entrance are tripartite windows set within Tuscan aedicules, with segmental pediments over the central light. Ground-floor and upper-floor windows have flat arches. The basement windows are segmental-arched, with keyed jambs and rusticated voussoirs. First-floor windows have moulded architraves; those above the entrances feature segmental pediments, while the others have projecting sills and keyed lintels. Second-floor windows have moulded architraves and projecting sills. A bracketed cornice and parapet tops all the ranges, and stacks are located on the party wall. A plaque on the party wall between the first and second floors reads "Penshurst Place," referring to the group comprising numbers 68-76 Lyndhurst Way. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
