Description
These are a pair of semi-detached houses located on Canonbury Park North, dating from 1841-43 and developed by C.H. Hill. The houses are constructed of yellow brick and stucco, with the roof of Welsh slate on number 38 and asbestos slate on number 40. Each house has two storeys and two windows. A two-storey bay window is set back on one side, providing the entrance. All windows feature flat arches with gauged-brick heads and original 8/8 sash windows. A distinctive feature is a vertical sunken panel, one brick deep, that divides the two houses. A stucco porch with antae and an entablature shelters a panelled door of original design, along with an overlight. A round-arched, blank window sits above the entrance on the first floor. The eaves are enclosed, and a party wall is expressed above the roof, carrying a central stack. The roofs are hipped, both main and subsidiary, with dormers on the side of each house. Single-storey extensions have been added to the side of both properties.
