Description
Numbers 54 and 56 are a pair of semi-detached houses built around 1845 as part of a development by C.H. Hill. The houses are constructed of yellow brick with stucco and have a slate roof. They are two storeys high with a basement, and each house is two bays wide. The basement is stuccoed, and steps lead up to the entrance in the outer bay, which is flanked by cast iron railings. The entrance features a recessed wooden architrave, a panelled door of original design with an overlight, and a cornice supported by consoles. The inner bay projects forward by the thickness of one brick. All windows have flat arches with gauged brick heads and retain their original sashes; those on the ground floor have a cornice on consoles. The eaves are enclosed and a party wall extends above the roof line, carrying a central stack. The roofs are hipped. Single-storey extensions have been added to the side of both houses.
