Description

Myddelton Cottage is a detached house dating from the 1850s, located on Canonbury Park South, Islington. Constructed of yellow brick with red brick dressings, it features a slate roof. The design incorporates Italianate and rustic architectural elements. The house appears as two gables from the street, with the eastern gable projecting forward and a single-storey porch set in the angle between them. Ground-floor windows are flat-arched, distinguished by unusual rectilinear cornices supported by brackets above the window openings, with a linking band at cornice level. The porch is characterized by pilasters and a hipped roof. First-floor windows have round arches with aprons of red brick. The gables feature projecting purlins, with the upper part of the western gable also projecting. The house has three chimney stacks, clad in stucco and featuring bold cornices except for the northernmost. Myddelton Cottage forms part of a distinct group of Italianate-style houses, along with numbers 38, 40-42, and 44 Canonbury Park South.
