Description
No. 143 on Lower Clapton Road is a late 18th-century house that stands three storeys tall and features three windows. The building is constructed of stock brick and has a stone-coped parapet. It has gauged flat brick arches above the sash windows, which include glazing bars. The central entrance is a five-panel door set within an ornamental doorcase that has a reeded architrave, adorned with paterae and an open pediment. The pediment is detailed with dentils and reeding, and it is supported by cornices that are similarly decorated on carved console brackets. A cartouche with garlands is positioned at the center of the doorcase. The ground floor windows have been altered to accommodate modern small shop windows. No. 143 is part of a group that includes Nos. 143 to 153 (odd).
