Description
No 17 on Lower Clapton Road is an early 19th-century building that has undergone some alterations. It stands three storeys tall and features three windows, with an obtuse angle to a one-window front facing Lower Clapton Road. The building has a raised slated mansard roof with a flat dormer over the two right bays. The exterior is finished in stucco with incised lines, a cornice band, and a parapet. The original sash windows have been replaced but still include glazing bars. The ground floor has been modified for a modern shop. On the first floor to the left, there is a plaque inscribed with the words "CLAPTON SQUARE" in good lettering, which is one of the reasons for the building's listing. No 17 is part of a group that includes the railings around Clapton Square garden and Nos 7 to 19 (consecutive) and 13A Clapton Square.
