Description
The Portico to the former London Orphan Asylum, designed by architect W.S. Inman, dates from around 1823. This building features a tetrastyle Doric portico with a pediment at its center, flanked by five window links. The ground floor is supported by a Doric colonnade, leading to two window wings. The central section and links are finished in stucco, while the wings are made of amber brick with stucco pilasters at the corners. The windows are sash types with glazing bars or margin lights; those in the links are set within moulded architraves, and the wings have windows under gauged brick flat arches. The entrance boasts very tall double doors framed by an eared and battered architrave.
