Description

This is an early 19th century house, built on a larger scale than the surrounding properties. It is three storeys high with an attic and basement, and has three windows facing the square. The roof is slated and features dormers. The house is constructed of stock brick, with a rusticated stucco ground floor designed to resemble voussoirs around round-arched recesses, containing round-headed windows. A band runs across the first floor, supporting four giant stuccoed pilasters that in turn support a frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The upper sash windows have gauged flat brick arches; those on the second floor have glazing bars, while those on the first floor are complemented by ornamental cast iron balconies. A prostyle Doric porch is located on the left side of the building, now enclosed and containing a modern door. Numbers 21 to 25 Clapton Square and numbers 1 to 8 Clarence Place form a group.
