Description
No. 8 Clarence Place is an early 19th-century building, with later alterations, believed to have been the coachhouse for No. 20 Clapton Square. It is three storeys high and originally had two windows, although the right-hand bay is slightly set back. The building is constructed of stock brick with a stuccoed cornice and blocking course. The windows have gauged flat brick arches, and while the sashes have been replaced, one is a casement. A two-storey canted bay was added in the later 19th century to the left-hand side. The front door, now half-glazed, has a cornice head and a plain fanlight within a moulded architrave. Nos. 1 to 8 Clarence Place form a group with Nos. 20 to 25 Clapton Square.
