Description

Numbers 18-36 on Ampton Street is a terrace of ten houses built around 1819-1823, designed by Thomas Cubitt. The terrace is symmetrical, featuring a slightly projecting central block that includes numbers 24-30.

The houses at numbers 18-22 and 32-36 are constructed of yellow stock brick with stucco ground floors, while the first floors have plain stucco sill bands. Each house has three storeys and basements, with two windows on each, except for number 18, which has an additional blind window on the return to Ampton Place. The ground floor features round-arched openings, and the doorways have panelled jambs, cornice-heads, radial fanlights, and panelled doors. Originally, the ground floor sashes had pointed lights, while the upper floors have recessed sashes with gauged brick flat arches. The parapets are topped with a stucco band below the coping.

Numbers 24-30 are finished in stucco with plain first-floor sill bands and also consist of three storeys and basements, with two windows each. They share the round-arched ground floor openings and have similar doorways with panelled jambs, cornice-heads, radial fanlights, and panelled doors. The sashes are recessed, and the first floor features cast-iron balconies, along with a cornice and blocking course.

The terrace is complemented by attached cast-iron railings with urn finials leading to the areas in front of the houses. The interiors have not been inspected.
