Description

Numbers 33-49 on Frederick Street is a terrace of nine houses built around 1823-1826 by Thomas Cubitt. The buildings are constructed from yellow stock brick with stucco ground floors and first-floor sill bands. This symmetrical terrace features projecting end bays, with three storeys and basements.

The projecting end bays, which are Nos 33-37 and 45-49, each have one window. The ground floor openings are round-arched, except for No. 33, which has a segmental-arched tripartite sash and an entrance porch that returns to Ampton Place. The doorways have panelled jambs, cornice-heads, fanlights, and panelled doors. The sashes include margin lights. Each house has pilasters with enriched capitals rising through the first and second floors, supporting an entablature and blocking course. The pilasters flank four-light windows on the first floor, which have gauged brick segmental arch heads and cast-iron balconies, while the second floor features tripartite sashes.

The recessed central bay, which includes Nos 39-43, has two windows each. The ground floor openings are also round-arched, with doorways similar to those in the end bays. The upper floors have gauged brick flat arches above recessed sashes, with cast-iron balconies on the first floor. Notably, the first floor of No. 41 has a console bracketed cornice, and there is a stucco band beneath the cornice and blocking course.

The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace is complemented by attached cast-iron railings with urn finials to the areas in front of the houses.
