Description

This is a terrace of ten houses, dating from approximately 1827 to 1832, designed by William Cubitt. The terrace is symmetrical, with projecting end houses at numbers 9 & 11 and 25 & 27, and a central section housing numbers 15 to 21. Number 9 features a projecting stucco portico with columns on the side facing Cubitt Street. A single-storey, splayed corner extension forms number 65 Cubitt Street, and, together with number 7 Frederick Street, creates the impression of lodges marking the entrance to Cubitt Street.

The projecting houses are built with stucco exteriors, featuring rusticated ground floors. They stand four stories high, including basement levels, with two windows each, except for number 9 which has three windows (blind) on its return to Cubitt Street. The doorways have square heads, panelled jambs, cornice detail above the doors, overlights, and panelled doors. The windows are recessed sashes; the first floor windows have architraves with pulvinated friezes and pediments. A console bracketed cornice is situated at the third floor level. The recessed houses, numbers 13 and 23, are constructed of yellow stock brick with stucco ground floors, three stories high, with basement levels and two windows each. Their square-headed doorways mirror those of the projecting houses, with cornice detailing, fanlights, and panelled doors. Gauged brick flat arches are above the recessed sash windows, and the first floor features cast-iron balconies. A stucco band sits below the parapet coping.

The interiors have not been inspected. Attached cast-iron railings, topped with bud finials, run along the area boundaries.
