Description

Numbers 1-7 Frederick Street is a terrace of four houses dating from around 1835 to 1839, designed by William Cubitt. The houses are constructed of stucco, with rusticated ground floors. They are three storeys high, with basements, and each has two windows, except for number 7, which has three windows, including a blind return to Cubitt Street. A single-storey, splayed-corner extension to number 7 forms number 34 Cubitt Street. A similar arrangement visible on number 9 Frederick Street creates the appearance of lodges marking the entrance to Cubitt Street. Number 1 has a mid-19th century projecting shopfront with pilasters supporting an entablature, flanked by consoles, and 20th-century doors. The remaining houses (numbers 3-7) have square-headed doorways with panelled jambs, cornice-heads, overlights, and panelled doors. The first-floor windows are recessed sashes with architraves, pulvinated friezes, pediments, and cast-iron balconies. The facades feature a console bracketed cornice and blocking course. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with bud finials are present around the areas.
