Description
32 Cubitt Street is a former chapel, originally the Arthur Street Baptist Chapel and later the Ampton Chapel, built in 1861. The building is constructed of yellow stock brick with stucco dressings and features two storeys plus a crypt, forming a rectangular hall. The facade includes three windows with a slightly projecting central entrance bay and a six-window left-hand return.
The entrance features a square-headed, architraved doorway with a console bracketed cornice and double panelled doors, which are approached by double ramps that were formerly steps, flanked by cast-iron railings. The windows are round-arched and architraved, with margin glazing; the ground floor windows have stucco keystones and aprons, while the first floor windows have stucco surrounds and cornices, with the central window also featuring a stucco apron. The building has stucco bands at the first floor and first floor sill. A simplified 20th-century stucco cornice and blocking course complete the exterior. The interior has not been inspected.
