Description

A terrace of twelve houses built around 1824 by Thomas Cubitt. The houses are constructed of darkened yellow stock brick with stucco ground floors, with rusticated detailing to the projecting bays. The roofs are slate, with mansard roofs and dormers on numbers 5 to 10.

The houses are four storeys high, with attics to numbers 5 to 10, and have basements. Each house has three windows. The facade is symmetrical, with projecting end bays at numbers 1, 2, 11, and 12, and a central bay encompassing numbers 6 and 7. Square-headed doorways are recessed, with panelled jambs, cornice-heads, fanlights, and panelled doors. Number 2 features a prostyle Greek Doric portico with a balustrade. The door of number 1 includes Art Nouveau stained glass panels. Continuous cast-iron balconies are present on the architraved first-floor casements, with cornices on the projecting bays. The second floor has square-headed, architraved sashes, and the third floor has sashes with gauged brick flat arches. A main stucco entablature runs at the third-floor level, topped with a cornice and blocking course above the attic storey.

The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with foliated finials mark the areas, and number 6 incorporates a decorative wrought-iron guard.
