Description

Nos. 19 and 19A, Colegate, are a pair of houses dating from the 17th century. The Colegate facade is painted brick with a roof covered in Roman pantiles. The building is two storeys high and six bays wide. The right-hand door is slightly off-centre, with sunk panel pilasters, a moulded inner surround featuring a keystone and a pediment supported by scroll consoles. The windows are early 18th century sash windows with glazing bars, set within rubbed brick flat arches. A brick string course runs between the floors. At first floor level are mullion and transom windows. There is one gabled dormer. The rear facade of No. 19A, facing Old Meeting House Alley, is of red brick with a hidden roof. This part of the building is two storeys high and has two widely spaced first floor windows. An off-centre panelled door features a fanlight, panelled pilasters, and a reeded architrave. There is one 19th century casement window at ground floor level, and sash windows with glazing bars at first floor level. A fascia cornice runs along the top of the facade, and there are two dormer gables with casement windows and bargeboards.
