Description

19-19A Front Street is a pair of houses that have been converted into two shops and a flat. They were originally built in the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared dressed stone, featuring ashlar quoins and painted ashlar dressings. The roof is covered with pantiles and has stone gable coping and brick chimneys.

The structure is two storeys high and has four windows. The door has been renewed, and there is a blocked overlight beneath the third window, all within a 19th-century doorcase that has partly-fluted pilasters and a bracketed fascia that continues with the shop front on the left. The left shop features slender pilasters that flank curved windows, leading to a renewed recessed door located to the left of centre. It also has fluted pilasters and fascia brackets at each end. The right shop front, added in the late 20th century, includes a bracketed fascia over a half-glazed door and shop window, occupying the fourth bay.

The first-floor windows have been renewed, with the left bay being narrower and featuring 20th-century glazing. They have projecting painted stone sills and 19th-century chamfered and painted stone lintels at the eaves. The right side of the building has quoins, and the roof features gable coping. There are brick chimneys located at the ridge of the second bay and at the right end of the building.
