Description
Nos. 19 and 19A/19B on High Street are two houses that have been converted into three shops, dating from the early 19th century. The buildings are finished in stucco, likely over limestone rubble, and feature a slate roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. They have a double-depth plan and stand two storeys tall with a four-window range.
Above the projecting shopfronts, there is a moulded 19th-century wood cornice. No. 19 has a 20th-century door to the right, which includes a 19th-century overlight and reeded panel reveals, along with a 20th-century bow window. No. 19A features a 20th-century door to the left with a 19th-century overlight and reeded panel reveals, and a shop window from the 20th century. No. 19B has a 20th-century door to the left, a blocked overlight, a reeded doorcase, and panelled reveals, with what is likely an original bow window that retains its original glazing bars.
On the first floor, there are four 8/8-pane sash windows that still have much of their original glass. The ground floors have been altered, and the shop fronts appear to be later additions. All three shops have large two-storey workshop ranges at the rear. The left shop, No. 19, contains the entire upper floor of the three shops (including attics) and the workshop range. There is a window on the ground floor of that range set between moulded stone jambs, likely dating from the 17th century.
Inside, most of the remaining features are from the early 19th century, including an elliptical arch on the landing.
