Description

No. 23 is a house dating from the mid-18th century, constructed from Ham Hill stone ashlar with a slate roof and brick stacks at the gable ends. It features a double-depth central-staircase plan and stands two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window range. There is a step leading up to a Tuscan porch. The windows are mostly late 19th or 20th century horned 2/4-pane sashes, except for the ground floor right window, which is a 19th-century canted bay with three ogees cut into the cornice above. A thin projecting cornice runs under a parapet that has three recessed panels above the windows, with coping that ramps up to the brick end stacks. There is a 18th-century lead hopperhead in the left reveal. The interior has not been inspected. The house is accompanied by attached spearhead area railings with urn finials to the left of the door.
