Description
No. 17A on Old Meeting House Alley is a former church hall, now used as a store, which dates back to 1842 as indicated on the foundation stone. There is a later 19th-century extension to the north. The building is constructed of red brick and features a hipped slate roof. It stands two storeys tall and has five bays, with the northern extension adding an additional bay. The entrance is accessed from the adjoining building to the south.
The property has tall sash windows throughout, which include glazing bars and are topped with rubbed brick flat arches. The north extension also has similar windows, with brick aprons positioned above the first-floor string course. The adjoining south building is from the early 18th century and is made of red brick with random purple bricks, featuring a plinth and a pantile roof. This building is also two storeys high and has two first-floor windows. It includes a 19th-century door with a simple timber surround and a small flat hood, along with mullion and transom windows that have side-hung lights. Inside, there is a stairwell that was part of the former church hall.
