Description

The building at 9 Calvert Street is a late 18th-century house that has been renovated in the 20th century. Constructed of red brick with a pantile roof, it is set at a right angle to the street line. The street facade has four bays, with the two bays on the right-hand side set back. A door is located at the left-hand side, featuring a fluted surround, a fanlight, and a Doric frieze. The ground floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, while the two right-hand windows are semi-circular arched, with a keystone. The first-floor windows are mullion and transom windows. A fascia cornice runs along the top of the facade. The north-facing elevation has four bays, with the two central bays projecting, topped by a bracketed pediment. Mullion and transom windows are present throughout, with the ground floor outer bays featuring large recessed panels with segmental arches, stone keystones, and responds. The two centre ground floor windows are similarly recessed with semi-circular arches, stone keystones, and responds. The elevation also has a fascia cornice, and a hipped roof.
