Description
Snettisham County Primary School is a county primary school built in 1875, with additions made in 1895 and 1908. The building is constructed from coursed, squared, and dressed carstone ashlar, featuring Bath-stone dressings and has slated roofs. It is a single-storey structure designed in an H plan.
The southern part of the school has two returned gabled cross wings that contain three-light wooden tracery Gothic arch-headed casements. The building includes stone quoins, banding, kneelers, and coped gables. The center features a gabled window with three trefoil-headed lights, a tile-hung tympanum, and a Gothic arch. There are two flanking single-light casements and two angle porches. A central cupola with a battered, slated base supports an octagonal belfry topped with a spire, which was replaced after damage in 1982. The school was built at a cost of £2,000, as noted in Kelly's Directory, Norfolk (1916) on page 445.
