Description

Two houses with a range of workshops attached to the south, located on School Road in Snettisham. The houses date to circa 1700 and the early 18th century, while the workshops were built in 1793.

Number 1, situated at the north end, is circa 1700 and built of coursed, squared, and dressed carstone ashlar, with brick dressings and a pantiled roof. It is two storeys high. The ground floor has a mid-20th century shop front inserted, and the first floor contains three two-light casements with lead glazing bars, set under fine rubbed brick flat arches. Brick quoins are also present.

Number 2, to the south, dates from the early 18th century and is constructed of squared, coursed carstone ashlar with galletting, brick dressings, and a red pantiled roof. It is two storeys high with attics, and has four bays. The ground floor to the north features two inserted circa 1900 plate glass sash windows with brick dressings; to the south, two early 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars are set under early 18th-century flat, rubbed brick arches. A central 18th-century six-panel raised and fielded door is protected by a simple two-light rectangular fanlight and a flat, rubbed brick arch. The first floor has four wooden-framed 18th-century casement cross-windows with plate glass, set in original rusticated brick frames with moulded aprons. A moulded brick plat-band runs along the first floor. Brick quoins are present, and a dogtooth dentil eaves cornice extends to a brick tumbling at the south gable. Three cut-down ridge stacks are visible.

A range of workshops is attached to the south of the houses. The northern section is of squared coursed carstone, while the central and southern ranges are of carstone rubble with brick dressings and red pantiled roofs. The south range features five datestone plaques on its north side, reading "T. Page 1793", "Built by Ja. Law 1793", "17 JF 93", "17 SE 93", and "17 SB 93". The workshops are included for their group value.
