Description
The Snettisham War Memorial is a First World War memorial built around 1920, located at the roadside along Lynn Road (B1440) at a triangular junction with Hall Road and Old Church Road in Snettisham, Norfolk. It features a Celtic wheel-head cross made of Portland stone, which sits atop a wide, tapering shaft. Below the shaft is a tall plinth with a deeply corniced upper section and a moulded foot. This is supported by a three-tiered base made of carrstone blocks and brick. The entire memorial is enclosed by metal railings, and the plinth displays inscriptions and names in incised lettering. The main inscription reads: "THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTIONS IN MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH WHO SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WARS 1914 – 1918 AND 1939 – 1945" followed by the names of the fallen.
