Description
The Kilham War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1921, with alterations made after the Second World War. It is constructed from Portland stone and features an octagonal shaft that tapers, resting on a square plinth that also tapers, all set on a three-stepped base.
The memorial is designed as a stone wheel cross atop the tapered octagonal shaft. This shaft is mounted on a tapered stone plinth that has inset panels and a cornice. The north face of the plinth displays an incised inscription that reads: "ERECTED BY/ PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION/ IN MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1919/ LEST WE FORGET." The east and west faces of the plinth list the names of the Fallen. In front of the memorial is a sandstone tablet shaped like an open book, which has an incised inscription reading: "1939-1945/ (NAMES)."
The memorial is elevated on two stone steps, with an additional third step made of concrete and a concrete raft base.
