Description

The Saddlers is a mid-18th century house located on the west side of Bakehouse Lane in Kilham. The house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a pantiled roof. It has a central direct entry plan and is arranged over two storeys and attics, with three bays.

A flight of five steps leads to a six-panel front door, which is topped by an oblong fanlight and sits beneath a flat, gauged brick arch. The door is flanked by late 19th century canted bays featuring glazing bars. The first floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within architraves with sills and flat, gauged brick arches. A stepped eaves cornice runs around the house, with an external brick stack featuring offsets, a band, and a cornice on the left side, and an end stack with similar detailing to the right. The raised gables have tumbled-in brickwork. Cast-iron railings, with baluster newels and decorated balusters, run along the front, topped with a slender handrail. A saddler's last is mounted on either side of the front door.
