Description

The Rose and Crown Public House is a public house located on Old Church Road in Snettisham. It dates from the first half of the 17th century and is constructed of whitewashed carstone with brick dressings, topped with a red pantiled roof. The building is two stories high and features a four-window range, with an additional later brick range to the west and a gabled wing to the north.

The earlier part of the building has two ground floor and two first floor three-light casements, along with additional first floor two-light casements, all of which are early 19th century wooden and framed windows. The central entrance is a boarded door, with an off-centre part glazed door to the west and one first floor two-light casement. A projecting brick kneeler bracket indicates the joint between the two builds and the line of the earlier roof, which springs from a lower level. The steeply pitched roof has one axial stack and one stack at the east end.

At the east end, there is a lean-to made of whitewashed brick with a pantiled roof. To the west, there is a two-storey whitewashed brick extension from the 20th century. The gabled wing at the rear of the earlier build is made of carstone with brick dressings, and there is a blocked fire window on the west side with a 20th-century end gable stack.
