Description
Long Sutton Primary School is a school built in 1871. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings. The roof is made of plain clay tiles, featuring bands of scalloped tiles and an ornamental clay tile ridge, all set between stepped coped gables topped with cross finials. The building has brick chimney stacks and follows a 'T' plan. It is a single-storey structure with four bays, where the side porches are set well back. The second and fourth bays are gabled, with the second bay projecting slightly and the fourth bay being wider and projecting more. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with square labels, and contain small-pane casements that have arched glazing bars at the heads. The fourth bay has a 4-light window, while the others have 3-light windows. There is a pointed arched recess in the gable of the fourth bay. The porches have monopitch roofs behind castellated copings and feature pointed arched doorways. The interior has not been seen. The school is significant in the street scene as it dominates the south end of the village green. It replaced the previous school located at School House in 1871.
