Description
No 1 Elia Cottage and No 2 Elia Cottages are two houses that date from the 17th century or early 18th century. They are timber-framed, with sections that are weatherboarded and plastered, and feature a steep thatched roof that is half hipped at the west end. The building is two storeys tall and has three windows, facing south. Originally, it had a three-unit plan with a central chimney located one third from the west end and a small gable chimney at the east end. The house has been extended at the east and divided into two separate homes, although this extension is not of special interest.
The central and left parts of the front display dark weatherboarding on both floors, with a continuous dripboard above the lower openings. This dripboard continues across the right-hand part, which is plastered above but has dark weatherboarding below. There is a plank door with battens located on the extreme right of the centre section, featuring a wider inclined board supported by pierced and shaped brackets. Each part of the house has one window on each floor, with three-light flush casements on the left and centre, and four-light flush casements on the right. The west gable is also weatherboarded. This historic timber-framed thatched house is part of a picturesque group within the Conservation Area.
