Description
Martins Cottage is a house that was once divided into three dwellings, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with extensions added in the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building features a timber frame that is rendered and weatherboarded, topped with half hipped thatched roofs. It consists of two sections, each with three bays, and is two storeys high with a one-storey and attic extension.
The earlier left section has a rendered front with a weatherboarded dado and an entrance on the right, which is accessed through a 20th-century projecting porch that has a hipped thatched roof. The windows are 20th-century small pane flush frame casements, arranged as three, one, and three lights. There is a cross axial stack located to the right of centre, which has a broad base and a rebuilt oversailing cap. The left end of this section is weatherboarded, displaying exposed plates and 20th-century bargeboards.
The lower section on the right is also weatherboarded and features similar casements, along with one dormer that has a raking thatched head. A small ridge stack is positioned to the left of centre, which has been rebuilt with an oversailing cap. Additionally, there is a lean-to outshut at the right end, covered with a hipped slate roof. At the rear of the earlier range, there is a central gabled stair wing with scattered casements. The interior has not been inspected.
