Description

Whites Farm House is a timber-frame house dating from the early to mid-17th century, with extensions added in the 18th and 20th centuries. The house has a brick base and is weatherboarded, with a rendered plinth. It has a steeply pitched half-hipped thatched roof. Originally three bays wide, the front elevation features an original entrance that has been blocked. There are single and double 16-pane flush frame sash windows with hoodboards, and a small vertical casement window to the far right. Two dormers with three small-paned windows and eyebrow thatching are set into the roof. A brick stack, built in the 19th century, stands to the left of the centre. The left end has a three-light casement window and an attic horizontal sliding sash with exposed plates. At the rear is a short, two-storey addition with horizontal sliding sashes and a half-hipped roof. A 20th-century addition to the right end provides an entrance in a link to a cross-gabled block, constructed of brick and cement render with a tiled roof. Internally, features include ovolo-moulded bearers, stop-chamfered joists, a fireplace with a chamfered brick depressed arched surround, and a short 18th-century dogleg staircase with turned balusters.
