Description

Gladwyn and Brown's Cottage is a house, originally comprising three or more dwellings and now used as two separate residences. It dates to the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and a 20th-century extension. The building has a timber frame, which is now largely weatherboarded and brick-cased. It features a steeply pitched thatched roof, with four distinct sections. The house is one storey high, with an attic, and has two small-paned flush frame casement windows. A door was removed at the time of inspection. Four dormers are present, featuring eyebrow thatched roofs. A ridge stack with a rebuilt capping sits between the two right-hand bays. The left gable end is constructed from 19th-century red brick, incorporating kneelers to a slate-coped parapet and a rebuilt internal end stack. The rear of the building is weatherboarded. To the right is a 20th-century addition, built of brick and tile, which forms the majority of Brown’s Cottage. Internally, the framing is exposed and altered, with tension braces and a clasped purlin roof. The building is included on the register for its group value.
