Description
The barn and shelter shed at North End Farm date from the mid-18th century and the 19th century, respectively. The barn features a timber frame set on red brick sills and is clad in dark weatherboarding, topped with pitched roofs made of corrugated asbestos. It has a tall, three-bay structure facing south, with a central gabled porch that has double doors. The rear wall includes three high pitching doors and an off-centre winnowing door located in the middle bay. The barn has been extended to the west and showcases unjowled posts with heavy knee-braces supporting long tie-beams, each featuring a shaped king-post and raking queen-posts that support clasped purlins. Straight tension braces interrupt the wall studs. This barn is particularly noteworthy as an unaltered example from the 18th century. The narrow shelter shed, which backs onto the road to the east and faces west into the yard, is included for its group value with the barn.
