Description

Ivydene is a pair of attached houses dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and an extension added in the late 20th century. The houses are timber-framed with rendered panels and a plinth, while the extension features mock framing and rendered rear walls. The roof is thatched, with asbestos slate covering the left bay.

The structure has five bays and is one and a half storeys tall, with a depth of one room. The front facing the road shows left end framing that is three panels high, with slight intermediate ground floor framing, a heavier bressumer, and studs above, supported by angle braces to the wallplate. There are two late 20th century casement windows with two lights. The right side of the building is set forward, with a lower wall that is two panels high, featuring a small window and a curved brace to the wallplate from the stud on the right. This side has a two-light casement with small panes and a boarded door accessed by three concrete steps, along with another two-light casement and a further brace.

To the right, there is a late 20th century wing that is set back, with applied timbers and standing two and a half panels high, featuring two two-light casements. The roof on the left end has a half-hip that transitions to thatch where the wall sets forward. A brick chimney is located on the ridge, with a two-light casement in a swept dormer on the older part of the house and a larger one in the extension. The right end of the roof also has a half-hip. Originally, this was a two-bay house with an external brick chimney, which has been enlarged by one bay beyond the chimney. There is infill at the angle in front of the chimney that may represent an alteration. A cross wall to the right of the front door of No. 2 is timber framed, but the interior has not been inspected.
