Description

The Orchard and Gable Cottage are two attached cottages dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with alterations made in the mid and late 20th century. They feature brick-nogged timber framing, with English bond brickwork on the right end bay. The left cottage, Gable Cottage, has an asbestos slate roof, while the right cottage has a tiled roof.

The buildings are arranged in four bays and stand one and a half storeys high, with a depth of one room. Facing the road, there is a three-light casement window from 1985 set in an earlier opening with a cambered brick arch. The left side displays timber framing, with a straight brace main post supporting the wallplate and brick nogging that is painted. There is also a two-light metal casement window from the 20th century and a fully-glazed door beneath a gabled hood supported by slim front posts, with the gable being boarded. To the left of the door, there is a three-light casement window and a straight brace corner post leading to the wallplate.

A lean-to dormer with a two-light casement window from the 20th century is located to the right of the door. An external brick chimney is present on the right return, while a lateral chimney is found at the rear of the left cottage. The left gable likely had a half-hip originally, but the top has been boarded. The three-bay house has been extended by one bay on the right, likely originally as a single dwelling before being subdivided.
