Description

The Old House Cottage is a small house, likely built in the late 16th or 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is a two-bay, one-and-a-half-storey structure that is one room deep. The building features brick-nogged timber framing, painted brickwork, and a thatched roof.

On the road side, there is a boarded door located to the left of centre, which is accessed by two steps, one made of brick and the other of stone. There are two-light casement windows with small panes on either side of the door, and these windows do not have lintels. To the right of the door, there is a lean-to brick projection that continues the main roofline.

A two-light casement window is located in a swept dormer on the left side of the roof, and there is a brick chimney situated on the ridge of the left gable, with a second chimney positioned behind the lean-to on the right. The roof has a half-hip on the right gable.

The right return of the building features framing that is two panels high, with a two-light casement window with small panes on the left and a single-light window to the right. Above, there is a collar and tie beam truss with angle struts and another two-light casement window with small panes. The roof above this section also has a half-hip. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage forms a group with Kivinley and Ivydene.
