Description
Riverside and Riverside Cottage are two attached houses located behind the Coal Wharf, dating from the early 19th century. They feature Flemish bond brickwork and a slate roof. The right section, which faces the river, has a four-window block, while the left section is set back and consists of two windows. Both sections are two storeys high and one room deep.
On the right side, there is a sash window with a flat, rubbed brick arch, and a door with a rectangular fanlight above that has marginal lights and an St. Andrew's cross, also topped with a flat, rubbed brick arch. To the left, there are two similar windows, with four additional windows on the first floor. The parapet has plain stone coping, and there is a gable chimney at the right end, with another chimney on the ridge, one bay from the left.
The lower wing on the left is set back and features two two-light casement windows with small panes and cambered brick arches. There is a half-glazed door on the left with a similar arch above it. Above the ground floor, there are two windows that match those below, and a chimney is located in front of the ridge, centered between the windows.
